Here is another point to think about when designing our "end-state" games at the primary school level. For decades, we are exposed to cricket and softball, making these games our main reference point when teaching striking-fielding games. Have we been limiting our creativity and imagination?
As of 2024, the guideline for designing end-state striking fielding games is to incorporate 3 bases, instead of 4. A 3 base game was never talked about in any of the previous versions of syllabus document. So, why now? Have we wondered why? Why this change? I'll leave it to you to keep on wondering.
But in this post, I want to highlight something else. I want to highlight the possibility of placing the bases such that they are not spread over the same distances. Instead of a diamond or square if there are 4 bases... instead of an equilateral triangle if there are 3 bases... could the distances between the bases vary? I have adopted many different layout in my teaching over the years, each layout to exaggerate a different tactical focus. And this idea was inspired from the game of pesapallo. Hope you enjoy this short video and know more about pesapallo!
