How to teach throwing better?

Writer's picture: Creative PhysEdCreative PhysEd

And so... I now need to teach the underhand roll, underhand throw and overhand throw.

How do I make learning more engaging and more effective? Hmm...

Variability in practice.

Repetition without repetition.

Exploration.

Sounds familiar?

What are the real reasons why we allow our young learners to explore throwing with a variety of objects? Would this approach help to improve performance? Why or why not? Could there be other ways to incorporate "variability in practice"? What if... we bring our attention towards modifying the target, instead of the objects to be thrown?
