Making a 1-bounce net barrier game playable

Writer's picture: Creative PhysEdCreative PhysEd

Unlike games like badminton, games like tennis allows for one bounce in between each return shot. Thus, there is a need to train novice players how to read and respond appropriately based on the trajectory and the bounce of the moving object. One way to make the game more playable is to establish an area of play where the object/ball must bounce within in order for the game to continue. By directing the learners' attention externally towards this visual "target", it helps make the game more playable as the learner explore with a variety of technique to achieve the same outcome. To help the learner become more adaptable, the learner can be exposed to a few different implement and/or balls while playing the same game.
