The ecological approach focuses on the interaction between the mover and his/her environment, and how this interaction imposes constraints upon, and offers opportunities for, perception and action (Gibson, 1979).
The behaviours that are possible for a given individual in a given environment are said to be the affordances of that environment for that individual. It is also important to note that the same environment can present a different set of affordances for different individuals.
We argue that it is often insufficient to rely on solely task modification strategies e.g. game rules, equipment, objective of the game, etc. In addition to that, teachers need to skillfully manipulate other aspects of the game which may include modifications such as size of goal(s), type of goal(s), placement & number of goal(s), size & shape of playing area, etc.
