The PE and coaching industry is plague with dominant practices that are founded by myths and information-processing theories that are more suited for the maths and language teachers. When it comes to motor learning, not many are willing to question the dominant practice and we often accept it as the absolute truth, because we all were coached that way. Here is just one perspective of quality vs poor quality practice:
"If a player can tell before the exercise begins how he/she will behave, it means that it is a very good exercise for synchronized swimming, not for basketball." -Joan Cortes
Who is Joan Cortes? In short, he is a coaching genius. He is well ahead of his time. A time where we PE teachers struggles with ideas such as ecological dynamics and nonlinearity, Joan Cortes were already doing all of these to improve his practice.
